Doom City Committee Votes Unanimously To Stay Neutral On Whether To Hold A Vote
images/doomcity.jpgDoom City, Alenarith—Delegates to Doom City’s international committee voted unanimously on Wednesday to remain neutral on the question of whether the committee should hold a vote.
The neutral city-state, which has offered an open trading centre and a place of residence for players of every nation since the start of the server, requires every signatory nation to elect a delegate to the committee. Wednesday’s session was attended by all of them, none of whom were willing to say why.
“Doom City is neutral, and that neutrality must extend to everything, including itself,” said one delegate. “If we had voted to hold a vote, that would have been taking a side. If we had voted not to, that would also have been taking a side. So we voted to do neither, which is the only fair outcome.”
Several delegates pointed out that the decision not to take a side had itself been reached by a vote. The committee responded by voting to stay neutral on that as well.
Observers say the city’s commitment to neutrality runs deep. Doom City’s only war, a 2023 dispute over a nether portal, is still described in official records as “a period of strongly worded neutrality.” The city won.
“People say neutral countries never get anything done,” said one of the city’s two elected councillors. “That is unfair. This week alone we have stayed neutral on four separate issues, two of which we invented ourselves.”
The session ran for five hours and ended only when a delegate raised a motion to adjourn. The committee declined to take a position on the motion, but most members had logged off by that point.
The committee is expected to reconvene next week to decide, neutrally, whether Wednesday’s vote counted.
