Arx Meritocracy Promotes Man To Minister Of Excellence After He Places Rail Correctly On First Try
images/arx.jpgArx, Karydia—True to its founding principle that leadership is earned rather than granted, the Technocratic State of Arx on Tuesday promoted citizen GravelGuy_ to Minister of Excellence, after he placed a powered rail correctly on his first attempt.
“In Arx we reward skill, contribution, innovation and achievement,” said a senior technocrat at the promotion ceremony. “This was all four. He looked at the rail, he placed the rail, and the cart went the right way. Frankly, it was the most impressive infrastructure work this year.”
The rail in question, a single powered segment on a spur line outside the capital, has since been fenced off and fitted with a plaque reading “HERE, IT WENT RIGHT.” Officials say it will be preserved as a monument to Arxian excellence and will not be used, to avoid wearing it out.
Founded in November 2024, Arx describes itself as a beacon of order, logic and progress, governed by an elite of technical experts. Under its merit system, citizens are promoted for distinction in fields from infrastructure and diplomacy to architecture and culture.
GravelGuy_ joins a growing cabinet that already includes a Minister of Precision, appointed for building a perfectly symmetrical hut, and a Minister of Foresight, who was promoted after correctly predicting that it would rain.
“Some people say these promotions are too easy,” said the new minister, who was sworn in standing beside his rail. “Those people have never placed a rail under pressure. The whole nation was watching. Well, three people. But they were very technical people.”
Critics in neighbouring nations have questioned whether a country can be run entirely by ministers. Arxian officials replied that the matter was under review by the Ministry of Questions, which was established last week after a citizen asked a good one.
At press time, GravelGuy_ had already been nominated for Minister of Logic after correctly identifying which way was north.
