Operation Generic Freedom Enters Phase Three; Nobody Can Remember What Phase Three Was

Icenia City—Icenia announced on Wednesday that Operation Generic Freedom, its plan to defeat Chiraq by reviving Rhode Island and releasing every pearl on the server, has entered its third and final phase. Officials later admitted that nobody in the government can agree on what the third phase is.
“Phase three is ‘liberate,’” said an Icenian official, reading from a laminated card. “That’s the word we’ve got. What we’re liberating, and from whom, is currently being discussed.”
Officials say the first two phases went to plan in their own way. Phase one, “unban,” consisted of a single appeal to server staff on behalf of “everyone,” which staff closed without comment. Phase two, “unpearl,” saw Icenia open its vault, release a prisoner who had been held for around 600 days, and watch him get pearled again at the exit. Phase two also included the release of Chiraqi High Councillor Fur, whose pearl ran out of fuel. Icenia maintains this was intentional.
At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, ministers put forward at least four interpretations of “liberate.”
The defence ministry argued that phase three means liberating Providence, the former capital of Rhode Island. A map produced at the meeting showed that Providence is now part of Apollos, which was not consulted when the operation began and has still not been consulted. “We would be liberating it from people who live there,” said one minister. “That’s a type of liberation.”
A second faction argued that the operation should liberate Westhelm, where much of the war is being fought. Westhelm’s government responded that it had been sacked three times this year and would rather not be liberated “for a couple of weeks, if possible.”
A third proposal suggested liberating Chiraq from itself. Supporters pointed out that several of Chiraq’s founders are former Rhode Island players. “Technically we already freed one of their leaders,” said a planner. “We’re halfway there.”
The fourth suggestion, from a junior clerk, was that “liberate” referred to the fuel chest in the pearl vault, which has been empty since October. That proposal was adopted as an interim measure.
The status of Fur remains unresolved. Icenian records still list him as an asset of Operation Generic Freedom, assigned to the front near Westhelm. Icenia has sent him three sets of deployment orders. He has replied to none of them, but has posted twice in Chiraq’s announcements channel.
“On paper, he’s ours,” said the planner. “On the server, he’s theirs. We consider this a hybrid arrangement.”
Military analysts were divided on the operation’s progress. “In the last month, Icenia has released two prisoners,” said one. “One went straight back into the pearl. The other went straight back to Chiraq. That is a 100 percent return rate.”
Reaction elsewhere was cautious. Pavia, which Rhode Island sacked in 2022, again asked to be told the dates of phase three “so that we can be somewhere else.” Apollos has put up a sign on its border reading “ALREADY LIBERATED, THANK YOU.”
Gravelpunch_99, 23, a coalition fighter who has followed the operation since phase one, said morale remained high. “Nobody knows what we’re doing,” he said. “But we’ve got a banner, and the banner says we’ve done it.”
At press time, Icenia had revised phase three to “liberate (TBD)” and added a phase four, which reads “find out what phase three was.”
